Tips to “Going Mobile”

by admin
January 31st, 2012

Going Mobile means your local business has a need or are thinking about a mobile website SO you can be found by the millions of people who carry mobile devices in their pockets all of the time. Most likely they are using their mobile phones more than ever before. They are using them to find local business services or they are in need of a product on the spot. They could be local to the area or they could be a tourist just looking for a place to eat.

Mobile technology is growing at an amazing rate. As the result, mobile device manufacturers are growing up with the new and improved platforms and formats. New and improved technologies are advancing and defining the path for business and commerce growth. Advanced digital platforms are being developed to help businesses reach new target markets…and in turn create more sales.

Millions of new users are picking up a mobile device every day, and this trend will continue to grow in the coming years. There are currently 5 billion mobile device users all across the globe, and these potential customers are using their hand-held devices to surf, connect, and consume information and services.

So how can you capitalize on this dynamic trend in order to drive traffic and generate sales for your products and services? Here are some tips and tricks that you might consider to “mobilize” you current business and cash in on the mobile trend.

1. Become Familiar With Mobile Plug-ins

If you use a blogging platform like WordPress for your current website, then making it mobile friendly be as simple and easy as getting an appropriate plug-in. If you are unfamiliar with WordPress and do not know how to search for and update your company’s website yourself, be sure to consult with your web-master. These plug-ins have to be set up correctly in order to work properly, so exercise caution of this if you are doing it yourself.

2. Create a Separate Mobile Version of Your Website

If your company’s website is not built upon a WordPress platform, then it is an HTML-based site. If this is the case, I recommend that you create an entirely new mobile-optimized site will be accessible to multiple mobile devices. This simply means that when a consumer tries to access your current site from their handheld device, they will be redirected to you new mobile-friendly version instead. Again, you will most likely need help from a professional webmaster in order to set this up.

3. Avoid Using Flash on Your Mobile Website

I recommend that you do not use Flash-based application on your mobile optimized website, as many mobile devices cannot access this format. And even if they do, it often takes much too long to upload, making it impractical and frustrating for your visitor to leaving your visitor. Remember, your consumer is looking for instant results, and any delay in their ability to quickly access information about your business will typically result in them clicking away, never to return to your site.

4. Include Only the Most Important Information on Your Mobile Website

Mobile phone screens are small compared to your desktop or laptop monitor. Therefore, when creating your mobile-friendly site you should only include the most important information that you think the user would be looking for. This includes contact information like phone and fax numbers, your email address, directions to your office or store, and your hours of operation.

In Closing…

If you think you have a use for a mobile website or not, it is something to investigate to help your business grow.  If you want to learn more about cost or just want to learn more than check out our package services page or contact us for more information.

Is Mobile Marketing For Your Local Business

by admin
October 14th, 2011
Mobile phone subscribers per 100 inhabitants 1...

Image via Wikipedia

I have been asked if Mobile Marketing is for Your Local Business many times in the past year or so. In my thoughts, I would say “Yes”-  it is Very Important to have a mobile marketing plan in your budget. With millions of people using a smartphone regularly and the majority of them never turn them off!

The reason I say this – have you looked around you lately? All most everyone around you is either text messaging someone or looking for a local business on their iPhone while they are out and about town.

Now if you have a website you are half way there because almost every SmartPhone, iPhone, iPad, Andriod and countless other phones do have Internet service on their phone. So if you think about, hopefully not to long or you will be missing out on the biggest advertising platform out side of TV or Radio. Besides the cell phone being an advertising commodity, it is also a way to capture new customers on a mailing list or text messaging list.

Now to take this a step further, if you think your existing website can be seen on these smartphones easily you may want to take a look at your site on your own smartphone to see how it looks. Most likely it is very hard to navigate or even read the print on your site. You could be loosing hundreds of new customers just because they don’t know what you have to offer them via smartphone.

So what is the solution . . . ?

You need to consider having a separate user friendly website just for the people searching on Smartphones. Here you can set up an easy navigation menu with a pitch to sign up to your mailing list. You could even give away a coupon to get them to sign up to your email list or text messaging list. Once you get them on the list you than can advertise to them as often as you like to create business with just a message to your list. Just keep it short, simple and be considerate of how often you contact your list.

Ok, What kind of businesses can use Mobile Marketing…

Just about any kind of business  that sells any kind of product/products or services. Most common businesses I think is a must for them – Restaurants, Bar & Grill Pups, Specialty shops, Car Repair Garages, Realtors, Dentists and many others.
